Social Space for Cabool Alumni

I want to pay tribute to the memory of a classmate, Johnny Nevell, who was in my class. He passed away during a tragic accident while we were in school. When I think of him, I think of his cheerful attitude.

Does anyone have any photos they would like to add on here of him?

Hi, my name is Sara. I graduated with the class of 90. I think my uncle Bufford was with him when he was killed. I do know that it changed my uncle forever. I think my grandmas Flageolle has a pic or two of him. I will ask her.
Thanks Sara, that would be great! I think it changed our whole class forever, but I can only imagine that it must have been more so for those that saw it happen. How awful!!!! When you talk to your Uncle Bufford, tell him an ole classmate says hi, and we would like for him to join Caboolspace.
Will do. He lives in Auroa (sp) and his wife has been very sick lately. He may be to busy to chat but I will tell him, it may cheer him up some to visit with you all.
Sara, I hope his wife recovers soon. I will pray for them.
Hi Gloria. yes, I remember that day but have no photos of Johnny other than what is in the yearbook. Lynn Stringer and I were reading comic books at the drug store when we heard the sirens. And then later found out about the accident. I sat next to Johnny in band, it was quite the eye-opener at that age to realize that sometimes bad things happen to good people.
Hi Rhonda! Yes your right about it being an eye-opener at that age. It hit all of us hard. I didn't know you sat next to him in band. That would have been a really hard thing, looking at his empty chair after that and knowing someone our own age isn't exempt from dying. Not too long after that, my Dad made me learn how to drive a tractor, and at first, I dug my heels in and REFUSED to even get on the tractor and was very adamant about it, cause all I could see in my mind was the accident. On our property was a hillside that we had to drive down and everytime I had to drive down it, I was scared beyond measure. That is the impact it had on me.
I remember him well. I went to JFA camp with him and Norman one year. Lots of fun. I remember that Peggy came over to my house to tell me about it. I remember we were hanging upside down on a monkey bar when she told me. I still think of him and Bufford everytime I go down that hill.
Thanks for every body remembering my brother Tommy Nevill
Tommy, you are SO welcome! Do you have a picture of him you would like to scan and put on here?

I remember Johnny very well. Just a few days before he died, we attended summer camp together at the Lake of the Ozarks. We had a wonderful time, and became very good friends, square dancing every night at camp. Johnny was a real comedian, and kept us in stitches during the camp talent show. I was surprised to learn what a good voice he had, when he sang an a cappella solo, "How Great Thou Art." I feel fortunate to have had his friendship.
My brother Duane (Bufford) was with Johnny when this happened, Johnny was like one of the family. I have very fond memories of him. I was in college in Springfield when this happened. My brother loved him, he was his best friend.
It is awesome that Johnny Bill left an impression on so many young lives. I believe that he would have done great things with his life because he already had the important things in order, family and friends. Thanks to all for remembering him and keeping him in your heart.
