I've been teaching technical writing at Missouri State since 1979. I'm currently wearing several hats: Director of the Technical and Professional Writing Program, Assistant Head of the English Department, Director of the Ozarks Studies Institute, and Editor of OzarksWatch magazine. I still love students but am starting to think about retirement. I love the Ozarks and hope to die of old age right here.
My son, Jackson, just graduated from Missouri State with an individualized major in Writing for Stage and Screen (with "screen" meaning not just the big screen but also computer screens, Blackberry screens, video games, etc.). He hopes to write/produce/direct/do something with screen plays, but he's a good writer and will have the background to be a technical writer if he must go to Plan B. He will start on his MA in Writing at Missouri State this summer (has a graduate assistantship starting in the fall) but may abandon ship at some point for an MFA in Screenwriting in New York or California.
We share our home with two dogs (golden retriever and toy poodle), five cats (Jackson says I'm a cat magnet--he also calls me The Crazy Cat Lady), and about 80 turtles (nine water and the rest just box turtles, most of whom were born in our back yard)--and don't worry: by "home" I mean the back yard; we don't have 80 turtles running around the house!

That's a hard one--probably Pauline Skirvin and Hubert Reaves. But then along came Wanda Walker and Willard Duckworth and a bunch more great ones. I got a good start in Cabool schools!
Hi, Kris! So how is it I get an e-mail from Jill to find out about this space and then she isn't on it! Enjoyed your article on Loraine. So, how are the turtles. (Hope you remember me!)
Kristene: That cat hates me, oh well. I feel great but it has been a long haul over the last 3 years. I take 16 different meds a day, and a lot prayer. I remember a lot of crazy times at CHS. Take care, talk to you soon arby
Wow, Italy, that should be lots of fun. If I were closer I would volunteer. We are down to one dog and one cat as of last week--had to put down our 13 year old lab & golden retriever--sad day. It is almost as bad as losing person. Every time I see a turtle, I think of you! Have fun in Italy!
Hi Kristine! Great to hear from you! I just made my flight arrangements so I could come back for the reunion. I am looking forward to seeing you and hearing about your trip to Italy. I know that you all will have a wonderful time!

I think of Mom on March 1, too. She did LOVE to fish and we all loved to eat them.
Take care -
